On March 28, members and guests of the Green’s Ladies Golf Club gathered at the Little Horse Tavern, situated at the historic Cobbs Creek Driving Range in Philadelphia, for an exclusive installment of the club’s celebrated Tales from the Fairway speaker series. The afternoon featured an intimate interview and book signing with corporate executive, Philadelphia resident, and author Jimmie James. The event provided local golf enthusiasts a unique look into his historic journey through the sport and the profound life lessons cultivated along the way.

The event commenced with a catered reception, where attendees enjoyed light appetizers and drinks. The pre-event social hour provided a vibrant forum for networking, as club members, GLGC supporters, and Philadelphia golf enthusiasts mingled before taking their seats for the main presentation.

During the featured interview, James delved into the core themes of his acclaimed book, Playing from the Rough: A Personal Journey through America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses. He captivated the audience with details of his extraordinary feat: playing all of Golf Digest’s Top 100 American golf courses in a single calendar year, including Augusta National. However, the conversation extended far beyond individual scorecards and prestigious fairways. James spoke candidly about navigating historically exclusive spaces as a Black golfer, the discipline required to execute a 100-course marathon, and how the resilience learned on the golf course directly translates to professional and personal triumphs.

Following the interview, the event transitioned to an official book signing. In a generous highlight to the afternoon, every registered attendee walked away with a complimentary copy of Playing from the Rough, providing them with a lasting piece of the day’s inspiration. Guests had the opportunity to meet James individually, secure personalized inscriptions, and photograph the memorable occasion.

The success of the Jimmie James feature underscores the club’s commitment to fostering community, mentorship, and athletic excellence within the Philadelphia golf community. The momentum and shared insights from this event will undoubtedly carry forward into the club’s upcoming summer schedule throughout the greater Philadelphia area.
